Our application process
Our goal in recruitment is to find our future leaders and teach them to grow and lead USC's entrepreneurial spirit from within our organization. We do this by having multiple genuine conversations and interactions with our applicants. We want every interaction to feel like one student talking to another, so don't be worried about looking professional. Just be yourself!
The complete application process consists of three rounds:
Referrals, anonymity, and confidentiality
Three different board members will read each written application without knowing the identity of the applicant. Our app scoring system determines whether you move on to 1:2 interviews.
We deliberate over applicants by name after each round of interviews. Deliberators may not discuss or advocate for/against applicants they know personally or have worked with previously. If you know someone in Spark, they can't advocate for you, so don't bother asking them for a referral or recommendation!
Every student org recruits. Why is this important to write about?
Recruitment is one of Spark's most important and distributed responsibilities. We're constantly rebuilding Spark by folding in people who are passionate about the mission, the work, and working together. When we recruit, we're literally choosing the future of the org.
We also write because we want you to be as informed as possible as you begin this journey with us. It helps you and us to know what we're looking for—we also don't want a natural advantage to reside with anyone who's applying a second or third time.
Make sure to reach out with any questions you might have.
Who can apply to Spark Board?
Any undergraduate students can apply to Spark Board, the organizing group behind Spark's community and events. We typically take freshmen, sophomores, and juniors.
Is there a membership fee?
Nope! Spark's community and Spark Board are both free to join. Our mandatory Board retreat is $50, but Spark can cover fees if necessary.
